Sean entered the design world 10 years ago through creating fliers for independent musicians and working as an in-house designer for Trader Joes. Flier and merchandise design soon turned into running a small record label and tour managing bands. Tour managing allowed him to be geographically independent and to show his paintings and design work in a multitude of galleries around the states and abroad. He was offered the chance to paint a 100-foot wall in New York City above a community space, which opened the door to large scale public work. Since then he has been invited to various locations around the world to create large scale works and attend artist residency programs.
Watching people interact with his public art installations across various cultures was inspiring. Murals were a great way to interact with the public but the intricacies of understanding how people interacted with digital interfaces, packaging and environmental design really sparked his interest. He set out to gain a deeper understanding of how people experience and interact with elements around them, which lead him to study user experience design at San Diego City College. After finishing the program at SDCC, Sean took on freelance contracts pulling from both his technical design studies and background in fine art. Sean brings a creative outlook balanced by an analytical thought process to the team here at Joseph Gregory Design.
